One of our Rothounds in actionRothounds®

Rothounds are search dogs specially trained by Hutton + Rostron Environmental Investigations Limited to locate active dry rot fungus, Serpula lacrymans, which might otherwise be overlooked

Rothounds are one of a range of techniques for non-destructive testing used to locate decay organisms as part of a policy for environmental control of fungal and insect attack.

Rothounds are available as a service to buildings owners, surveyors, architects and contractors.

Moisture penetration due to building defects leads to failures including fungal decay. On-site investigation by H+R, followed by diagnosis and preparation of technical reports including recommendations and specification, can halt the problem at an early stage before it becomes too expensive.

Rothounds can detect outbreaks of dry rot (Serpula lacrymans) before they are found by conventional means and before the structural integrity of the timber has been compromised. Original timbers can thus be retained with a resulting saving of costs.

Rothounds can work in spaces not easily accessible to human surveyors such as roof spaces, eaves and cellars. They can also cover large areas quickly and efficiently.

Rothounds provide the ultimate in non-destructive detection techniques. No damaging or expensive exposure work is required and searches may be carried out in furnished or inhabited buildings.
